Stuttering is a condition that is more common than many people realize. The recent movie, “The King’s Speech” brought more awareness of what problems people with this condition face. This problem is often hidden because, understandably, many people who have difficulty speaking do not speak out about their experience and often avoid situations that will make their problem obvious to others. Programs that are available to help this condition may help control dysfluency but do not get to the root cause of dysfluency.
Our goal is to tackle the root cause of this issue with desensitization. Many experts believe stuttering is a disorder based in the brain, and sensitivities are known to often affect the brain, as occur in autism, ADHD, depression and anxiety. Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum and Laurie Teitelbaum M.S. spearheaded and funded a study on the effect of desensitization in children with autistic spectrum disorder. The results of this study were phenomenal! 23 out of 30 children who were desensitized to 50 main sensitivity sources were able to attend regular schools as compared with 0 of 30 children who did not receive desensitization treatments!
We are excited to utilize this desensitization technique, NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) to help those who have problems with fluency! Dr. Devi Nambudripad, the founder of NAET, and other doctors have had success in helping stutterers with this technique. We intend to study this further to help people finally find the ease they wish to have with their speech.
Therapy would not entail speaking exercises. Therapy would begin with desensitization utilizing the protocol used with autistic patients who were greatly helped in our study. This protocol is essentially desensitization to the sensitivity sources most people confront in their daily lives starting with the basic food groups. The primary sensitivity sources that appear to help people with dysfluency include proteins, sugars, amino acids (the building blocks of protein), milk products and Candida. Sensitivities to the body’s neurotransmitters have also been seen.
